Fall 2019 Family Law Newsletter: Avoid the risks of vague divorce agreements on college costs

The recently published Fall 2019 Family Law Newsletter highlights the potentially contentious issue of funding children's college education post-divorce.

Recent court opinions demonstrate that vaguely worded provisions on shared contributions to college costs as well as what expenses are covered can lead to legal disputes and unintended payments.

The newsletter, published by partner Gary Owen Todd, analyzes other important issues, such as whether retirement accounts can be divided in divorce without tax penalties, and visitation terms for pets of divorcing couples.

Mr. Todd, a Founding Partner at the firm, is recognized locally and nationally as a preeminent family law attorney concentrating on domestic relations and probate litigation. He has successfully negotiated, mediated and tried numerous family law issues at the trial court and appellate levels.
