Fall 2020 Family Law Newsletter: The challenges of changing support orders due to COVID-19

The recently published Fall 2020 Family Law Newsletter assesses the challenges of changing support agreements due to the economic impact of COVID-19.

Agreeing to a modification out-of-court is preferable, but if court intervention is needed a critical factor is to demonstrate a lack of ability to comply with the support obligations, and, equally important, show a good faith effort to obtain employment if out of work due to the pandemic.

The Fall 2020 newsletter, published by partner Gary Owen Todd, covers other important issues, such as the impact on a divorce caused by relocation to a different state, how an expected inheritance can the raise the importance of a prenuptial agreement, and the importance of changing beneficiaries on financial accounts and insurance policies when divorcing.

Mr. Todd, a Founding Partner at the firm, is recognized locally and nationally as a preeminent family law attorney concentrating on domestic relations and probate litigation.  He has successfully negotiated, mediated, and tried numerous family law issues at the trial court and appellate levels.
