Joe Cacace quoted in Boston Globe article on potential compensation for immigrant families separated at border
Joseph M. Cacace is quoted in a Boston Globe opinion column concerning potential federal compensation for immigrant families forcibly separated at the U.S.-Mexico border.
Mr. Cacace and Howard M. Cooper of the firm are counsel in class actions seeking monetary damages for the long-term trauma and harm inflicted on families who were separated, as well as a fund for mental health care and services and ongoing monitoring of the children’s well-being.
Approximately 5,500 children were separated from their families in 2017 and 2018 under the prior administration’s “zero-tolerance” policy, according to figures from the US Department of Homeland Security.
“The conduct at issue in this case represents deliberate, calculated, and illegal government-sponsored cruelty,” Mr. Cacace told the publication. “We are pleased that the Biden administration recognizes the severity of this conduct and is taking these claims seriously.”
