Joseph Cacace chosen by Mass. Lawyers Weekly for Excellence in Pro Bono
Joseph M. Cacace has been chosen by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly for Excellence in Pro Bono as part of its 2025 Excellence in the Law awards.
The publication will celebrate the 2025 Excellence in the Law honorees at a luncheon event on March 18.
This honor stems in part from Mr. Cacace’s tireless leadership in a six-year lawsuit filed on behalf of two Massachusetts families who were separated from their children at the border in Texas in 2018 after seeking asylum in the U.S., and then were detained in unhealthy and even abusive conditions along with thousands of other migrants during the Trump Administration’s “zero tolerance” and family separation policies.
The families obtained a favorable monetary settlement in 2024 concluding the lengthy litigation.
A longstanding commitment to pro bono representation throughout his career comes naturally to Mr. Cacace, who was instilled at an early age with the value of giving time and effort toward community service and those in need.
“I come from a family with a deep commitment to public service,” he says, “including public school teachers, lawyers, and other professionals who value and prioritize giving back to their communities professionally and as volunteers. Pro bono legal work has allowed me to do that throughout my career, and I am grateful to be at a firm that values pro bono work as much as I do.”
