Michael DiStefano provides remarks to Law360 on successful resolution of criminal case
Michael R. DiStefano offered remarks to Law360 regarding the successful resolution of a federal criminal case against his client.
A former manager of a jewelry manufacturer, the client was sentenced to 10 months of home confinement and 59 days in prison after pleading guilty of taking $1.7 million in gold, silver, and platinum from his employer. The federal court judge also ordered the client to repay $1.3 million to his former employer.
Mr. DiStefano, a partner at the firm, told Law360 that the sentence "reflects a full, fair, and individualized assessment of the various factors in criminal sentencing."
He added that his client’s “personal history is exceptional. A proud military veteran, he has experienced the depths of homelessness and the gratification of eventually owning a home, which he has opened to many people in need of support and a place to stay. Additionally, the sentence accounts for the nonviolent nature of the offense, the family and personal pressures he experienced at the time of the offense, and his lack of any prior interaction with the criminal justice system."
A former prosecutor, Mr. DiStefano concentrates his practice in the areas of white-collar investigations and criminal defense.
