Newsmax settles defamation suit filed by Smartmatic
On Sept. 26, Newsmax reached a confidential settlement of a defamation lawsuit brought by voting technology company Smartmatic concerning statements about the 2020 U.S. presidential election as a jury was being empaneled in Delaware Superior Court.
“Newsmax is pleased to announce it has resolved the litigation brought by Smartmatic through a confidential settlement,” the media company said in a written statement.
Todd & Weld attorneys Howard M. Cooper, Joseph M. Cacace, Josh L. Launer, and Maria A. Lombardi represented Newsmax in defending against the defamation claims, along with attorneys from Troutman Pepper, Young Conaway, Stargatt & Taylor, and Baker Hostetler.
