Richard Novitch elected to partnership at Todd & Weld LLP

Richard M. Novitch has been elected to the partnership at Todd & Weld LLP effective Jan. 1, 2022.

Mr. Novitch represents clients in all aspects of family law and probate litigation and appeals, including complex matrimonial matters, high net worth property division, business valuations, allocation and valuation of employee benefits, and allocation of family trusts.

An experienced litigator, Mr. Novitch has tried numerous cases in Probate and Family Courts in Massachusetts, and has extensive experience handling complex cases and issues on appeal, including matters before the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court and Massachusetts Appeals Court.

Recent representative accomplishments of Mr. Novitch include:

  • Obtaining a modification judgment terminating a dentist’s alimony payments under a divorce judgment due to a disabling thumb injury that forced him to sell his practice following two surgeries in 2019
  • Persuading a Massachusetts Appeals Court panel to uphold an abuse prevention order granted to his client related to a prior divorce, and to take the unusual step of awarding to his client reasonable attorneys’ fees and costs related to the appeal based on a showing that the opponent’s appeal was frivolous
  • Persuading a Massachusetts Appeals Court panel to reverse a custody judgment and to remand case for a new trial

Recognized by his peers as a leading family law practitioner, Mr. Novitch has been named to Massachusetts Super Lawyers for Family Law every year since 2017, and by Best Lawyers in America for Family Law in 2021 and 2022.

Mr. Novitch is a frequent lecturer on family law issues for the Boston Bar Association, Massachusetts Bar Association, Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, and other organizations.

He earned his law degree magna cum laude from Suffolk University Law School, and his undergraduate degree from Clark University.
