Winter 2024 Family Law newsletter: Supervised custody exchanges explained
The Winter 2024 Family Law newsletter assesses why supervised custody exchanges are useful in certain circumstances and how they function in practice.
These structured exchanges in the presence of a third party are helpful to defuse or avoid emotionally charged encounters between ex-spouses when handing off children. The primary goal is to protect children from witnessing potentially traumatic conflict, as well as to avoid anxiety or even fear of encountering an ex-spouse.
A court order is commonly used to structure the arrangement, including determining who will serve as custody exchange monitor, and whether the exchange will take place at a designated meeting spot such as a public library or school.
The Winter 2024 newsletter, published by partner Gary Owen Todd, covers other important issues, including how mobile payment apps such as Venmo or PayPal can impact divorces, and how to stop a divorce from proceeding once its filed.
Mr. Todd, a Founding Partner at the firm, is recognized locally and nationally as a preeminent family law attorney concentrating on domestic relations and probate litigation. He has successfully negotiated, mediated, and tried numerous family law issues at the trial court and appellate levels.
